USC quarterback announces intent to transfer

Southern California quarterback Jack Sears has entered the transfer portal after failing to win the starting job in a fourman competition.

Sears, a redshirt sophomore, announced his plans in a statement he posted to Twitter on Tuesday. Sears' decision came less than one week after coach Clay Helton announced sophomore J.T. Daniels would start for the second straight season.

The Trojans held an open audition among all four scholarship quarterbacks during spring practice and training camp as part of their transition to the Air Raid spread offense. Freshman Kedon Slovis was named the backup, with redshirt junior Matt Fink third on the depth chart and Sears fourth.

Sears plans to remain at USC for the fall semester to complete his undergraduate degree, which would allow him to be immediately eligible to play next season without having to sit out.

Missouri, Arkansas to play at Arrowhead Stadium

Missouri will play Arkansas at Arrowhead Stadium next season as part of a two-year deal that will bring the Tigers back to Kansas City for the first time since facing BYU in 2015.

The Tigers and Razorbacks are scheduled to play Nov. 28, though Missouri athletic director Jim Sterk said the game could be moved a day earlier for TV purposes. The SEC rivals are scheduled to play in Little Rock, Arkansas, this season in their first off-campus, regularseason game since 1963.

Florida State officials watching Tropical Storm Dorian

Florida State administrators are monitoring Tropical Storm Dorian, which could develop into a hurricane and potentially impact the Seminoles' season opener against Boise State in Jacksonville on Saturday night.

“Our game operations staff monitors potential weather impacts for all of our contests on a regular basis and will continue to do so,” an FSU spokesman told the Orlando Sentinel. “If severe weather presents any issues, we will make appropriate adjustments.”

Central Florida and South Florida remain in the storm's potential path, the National Hurricane Center said during its Tuesday morning update. And Dorian is forecast to be a hurricane when it passes near or over Puerto Rico later this week.

TCU to play two quarterbacks in opener

Graduate transfer Alex Delton will be t he starting quarterback for TCU's season opener, and true freshman Max Duggan will also play in the first quarter against ArkansasPine Bluff on Saturday.

Coach Gary Patterson said Tuesday the competition was good and that “a lot of guys keep pushing.”

Patterson also said senior running back Sewo Olonilua won't play in the first half Saturday. Olonilua, who set a school bowl record with 194 yards rushing in the Cheez-It Bowl, was arrested in May on possible drug charges in Walker County, Texas.
