New season of `Esther Women' to begin
What began as an idea for one six-week session by founder Jane Jayroe is now beginning its 16th year for Oklahoma women.
Esther Women, a nondenominational Christian luncheon series for those seeking inspiration, friendship and personal faith development, starts a new season on Wednesday with attorney and writer Bob Burke as guest speaker.
The Oklahoma native has written 129 historical nonfiction books, and four of them have won the Oklahoma Book Award. Burke will explore the faith legacy and Esther spirit of Oklahoma women buried in the state's history.
Jayroe said other speakers include broadcast journalist Scott Pelley. Also, a highlight will be the nationally acclaimed singer Wintley Phipps, who has performed for six presidents. Oklahoma speakers will round out the year with stories of faith learned from tragedy, from difficult family struggles, from demanding careers and from their heritage.
Every luncheon experience is designed to encourage, inspire and strengthen attendees' relationship with God and each other. Music is provided by Oklahoma City University.
Esther Women meets from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Christian Life Center at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 222 NW 15. Parking is available. Cost for the season of nine speakers and lunches is $225. The season pass is transferable. Due to the high demand for tickets, there is also an online option that includes video of every program, plus the Christmas concert in person for $50.
