The Oklahoman's top 10 games of Week 1
Week 1 of the high school football season has arrived.
Now t hat Zero Week has come and gone, the season' s first full week features matchups of perennial powers clashing, great rivalries and stellar quarterback showdowns. Here is a look at The Oklahoman's top 10 games of the week:
1. Class 5 A No .3 McGuinness (0-0) at Class 6A- II No. 4 Del City ( 0- 0): Star players are abundant in this matchup, where McGuinness' Dominic Richardson and Brynden Walker take on Del City's Donovan Stephens, Rejhan Tatum and Tyren Williams.
2. Class 6A-I No. 1 Broken Arrow (1-0) at No. 3 Tulsa Union (0-1): Broken Arrow is coming off a dominant win during t he Border Brawl against Mansfield, while Mansfield Lake Ridge' s late field goal toppled Tulsa Union. Both teams are back in Oklahoma with Tulsa Union looking to avenge its season-opening loss to the Tigers from last season.
3. Class 6A-II No. 1 Bixby ( 1- 0) at Class 6A- I No. 4 Jenks (1-0): Bixby phenom and Oklahoma State commit Brennan Presley will look to build on his six-touchdown performance against Jen ks, which blanked Mansfield Legacy and allowed only five first down sin last week' s Border Brawl matchup.
4. Class 6A-II No. 3 Tulsa Washington (0-0) at Class 5 A No .2 Tulsa Kelley (0-0): Tulsa Washington boasts one of the state's top offenses, with sophomore quarterback Gentry Williams leading the charge. Tulsa Kelley, however, returns 10 starters on defense, including OSU commit Zach Middleton.
5. Class 3A No. 3 Lincoln Christian (1-0) at Class 2A No .3 Jones (1-0): Both teams are coming off blow out Zero Week victories. A great quarterback matchup awaits, too, with veteran Chase Rick eta king on Jones sophomore Carson May.
6. Class 2 A No .7 Millwood (0-0) at Class 3A No. 1 Heritage Hall ( 0- 0), Thursday: Heritage Hall is looking to avenge its only loss from last season, while the Falcons are on a mission to prove they can get back to the top.
7. Fayetteville, Arkansas ( 1- 0) at Class 6A- I No. 2 Owasso (1-0): Owasso beat an Arkansas team during Zero Week and will look to tackle a perennial title contender in its home opener.
8. Cl ass 5A No. 1 Carl Albert ( 0- 0) at Class 6A- II No. 7 Midwest City ( 0- 1): Midwest City is coming off a tough opening loss at Bentonville, Arkansas, while Carl Albert begins the quest for its fourth consecutive state title.
9. Class 4A No. 1 Tuttle (1-0) at Class 3 A No .6 King fisher (0-0): Tuttle had a stellar start to its title defense last week, but Kingfisher's experience and toughness on the offensive and defensive lines will look to pull an upset.
10. Class 6A-I No. 9 Moore ( 0- 0) at No. 8 Westmoore (0-0): Westmoore has won 19 straight games against the Lions, but Moore senior quarterback and Kansas commit Daniel Hishaw Jr. is looking to end that trend.
