NORMAN—Oklahoma opened the season with a 49-31 home win over Houston on Sunday night.

Best celebration

The fan who won a year’ s worth of chicken: During a firsthalf timeout, Joshua Long had the chance to kick a field goal for a year's worth of chicken meals as part of Chick-fil-a's Kickin' For Chicken promotion. As Long's field goal sailed through the goal posts, he spiked his hat, fell down and chest bumped the announcer to celebrate his prize of 52 chicken meals.

Best fan participation

White out: With temperatures hovering in the high 80s at the start of the game, many of the fans crow ding into Gaylord Family—Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on Sunday night had to be thankful for the “White Out” promotion calling for fans to wear white to the game. The participation certainly was high, with many wearing white instead of crimson. Sooner fans voted for the white out for the opener over several other options during the offseason.

Best show of athleticism by a non-player

Lincoln Riley’ s sprint: Oklahoma looked like it would go into halftime quietly after Houston's field goal with 26 seconds left cut the Sooners' lead to 21-10. But with an offense as explosive as the Sooners, OU was quickly in field goal territory. When Jalen Hurts' 15-yard run gave Oklahoma a first down at the Houston 19 in the closing seconds, the Sooners' coach sprinted along the sidelines to call a timeout to give OU a field-goal chance with one second remaining. Worst special teams performance

Calum Sutherland' s kicking: The So one rs' offense was humming along for most of the first half, butt woof OU's drives ended on missed field goals by red shirt sophomore Cal um Sutherland, t he walk- on who beat out Ga be Br ki cf or the kicking duties. Sutherland missed a 49-yarder on Oklahoma's second drive and then a 36-yarder as time expired in the first half. Both kicks were wide right.

Worst tackling display

Cougars trying to tackle Jadon Haselwood: Not quite to the midway point of the third quarter, Oklahoma freshman receiver J ad on Has el wood made plenty of Cougars miss on a 42- yard catch. Haselwood was going to have a big gain anyway but Houston made it even bigger, first when two Cougars collided to take them out of the play. Then Houston safety Deontay Anderson had a chance to bring down Haselwood from behind but in extending for a strip attempt, he whiffed on Haselwood, spinning around as Haselwood added an extra 17 yards on the play setting up a touchdown one play later.
