In his first game as Western Heights' quarterback, Tevun Thammavongsa led the Jets' triple option attack to perfection

Not even a 5- hour bus ride could slow down Tevun Thammavongsa.

His command of Western Heights' offensive attack was key in its 34-13 seasonopening victory at Guymon on Friday. The team bus was stopped en route to Guymon because of an accident on the highway, which didn't hinder the team's performance.

Th am ma von gs a, who racked up 138 tackles the past two seasons as a strong safety, switched to quarterback this season. Against Guymon, he rushed for 109 yards with two touchdowns while completing his only three passes for 83 yards.

“He ran that triple option to perfection,” Jets coach Justin May hew said .“He made the right reads, got out of bounds when he needed to get out of bounds. He does whatever is asked of him.”

Although Sharonica Hartsfield's junior year was shortened because of a knee injury, it didn't slow down her recruiting.

Hartsfield, a star senior at Putnam West, announced Sunday her commitment to Troy.

As a junior, she played in only 16 games, averaging 8.6 points per game on a 43.4 percent shooting clip. She was a pivotal piece on a Putnam West squad that was ranked as one of the top girls teams in the country last season.

With her recruiting settled, Hartsfield will be able to focus on getting Putnam West back to the state championship game.

Former Norman golfer Yujeong Son has career-best finish on Symetra Tour

Yujeong Son is working her way toward the LPGA Tour.

The former Norman golfer recorded a career-best runner-up finish during the GreatLIFE Challenge at Willow Run Golf Course in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, over the weekend. The event is part of the Symetra Tour, the official developmental tour of the LPGA.

At the end of the season, the top -10 players in the standings earn an LPGA Tour card f or 2020. Standings are based off total earnings. Son has earned $55,051 this season, including $21,276 for her finish Sunday.

As a freshman at Norman, Son won the Class 6 A individual state title in her lone season of high school golf. She then was homeschooled to focus more on golf, and the results are showing.

She has five top -10 finishes in 19 events this season. There are four more events in the Symetra Tour season, which concludes the first weekend of October at LPGA International, Jones Course in Daytona Beach, Florida.
