Hubbard a calming influence

STILLWATER — Apparently Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard provides a calming effect with more than just his touchdown runs.

Multiple players — including quarterback Spencer Sanders and offensive lineman Bryce Bray, each a redshirt freshman making his first college start — credited Hubbard for his calming words before last Friday's 52- 36 win at Oregon State.

It comes from a genuine place. Hubbard was the redshirt freshman a year ago, giving himself the same pep talks.

“I felt like last year, I was kinda trying to do that to myself a little bit,” Hubbard said. “This year, I've been in these positions and these guys are probably like how I was last year. I just made sure to tell them, you're gonna be OK. You've worked hard. You've been playing football your whole life, so don't stress out too much.”

Ogbongbemiga hoping OSU has fewer defensive snaps

In making his first start at Oklahoma State,

inside linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga hardly came off the field at Oregon State last week, finishing as the team's leading tackler with 10 stops and the Pokes' only sack.

“It was a long game,” Ogbongbemiga said of the defense's 88 snaps. “I wasn't sure how many plays I was gonna get. We ended up doing fine. My body held up. I was a little sore, but it's all right.”

Pokes in the NFL

When the final round of cuts hit the NFL this week, a dozen former Oklahoma State players were left standing on active rosters, with one on injured reserve and four more on practice squads.

Both of OSU's players selected in the 2019 draft remain with their teams, with running back Justice Hill on the 53-man roster in Baltimore and Jordan Brailford on the injured reserve list at Washington.

Receiver Chris Lacy, an undrafted free agent who spent last year on Detroit's practice squad, made the team's roster this season.

Several other former Cowboys are expected to be in starting roles for their teams. Additionally, receiver Dez Bryant could be healthy and back on the market sometime next month. And left tackle Russell Okung's playing future is not known after suffering a pulmonary

embolism in June, though the Chargers would likely welcome him back when he's medically able.

Here's a look at the Pokes in the NFL:

On rosters: Dan Bailey (Minnesota); Jordan Brailford (Washington)*; Chris Carson (Seattle); Tre Flowers (Seattle); Justice Hill (Baltimore); Tyreek Hill (Kansas City); Blake Jarwin (Dallas); Chris Lacy (Detroit); Emmanuel Ogbah (Kansas City); Kevin Peterson (Arizona); Mason Rudolph (Pittsburgh); Lane Taylor (Green Bay); James Washington (Pittsburgh). Practice squads: Marcell Ateman (Oakland); Tyron Johnson (Buffalo); Brad Lundblade (Carolina); Justin Phillips (Oakland). *-On injured reserve.
