Gallinari, Italy overcome 20-point deficit in FIBA World Cup

Italy pulled off its biggest second-half comeback in FIBA World Cup history with a 94-89 overtime win against Puerto Rico Sunday.

In the Azzurri's FIBA World Cup finale, Thunder forward Danilo Gallinari teamed up with Marco Be linell ito lead Italy to victory after trailing by 20 points at halftime. Italy had never before overcome a halftime deficit of 15 points or more in the World Cup.

"It was a very bad game for us in the beginning,” Gallinari said. “We did not show up. We knew that we had to come out with a different attitude and different intensity in the second half, and I think that we did a great job."

Italy took the lead halfway through the fourth quarter, opening the period on a 25-4 run. Gallinari recorded three assists, two defensive rebounds and a block in that six-minute span, demonstrat­ing his value outside of his well-known sharp shooting.

Over the course of Italy's five-game World Cup campaign, which ended in the second round of the Group Phase, Gallinari led the Azzurri with 17.2 points per game. He shot 50 percent from 3-point range.

New Mexico United defeats Energy FC

Deshorn Brown scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season but Energy F Cf ell to New Mexico United, 3-1, Sunday night at Taft Stadium.

The loss drops Energy FC to 9-9-10 on the season and into a fourway tie for seventh with 37 points in the Western Conference standings of the USL Championsh­ip. The top eight teams advance to post-season.

Energy F Ch as six matches remaining in the regular season. The club's next match is Saturday at San Antonio FC.

Yochum's goals lead Cowgirls to win

Grace Yochum scored twice in the second half to lift Oklahoma State soccer to a 2- 0 win over Saint Louis at Neal Patterson Stadium.

The Cowgirls improved to 4-0-1 on the season and have won three straight. Oklahoma State returns to action Thursday when i t travels to No. 5 Penn State.
