Oklahoma State will open Big 12 play in primetime.

The Cowboys' game at Texas will kick off at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 21, televised by ABC, the conference announced Monday.

OSU ( 2- 0) has won f our straight games over Texas and five straight in Austin.

The Cowboys are coming off a 56-14 rout of FCS-level McNeese State, while Texas ( 1- 1) lost at home, 45- 38 to LSU.

Gleeson has plenty to critique after blowout win

The end result was ideal for Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Sean Gleeson.

A 56-14 blowout of McNeese State on Saturday night kept his players feeling good about themselves, but there were enough mistakes, particularly in the lackluster first quarter, to give Gleeson a long list of improvements to work on in practice this week.

“As a coach, you're happy to have a game like this, because now you can criticize them and they're not gonna go in the tank,” Gleeson said. “We needed an experience like this to show the kids that if you don't approach the end of the week, or practice, or the beginning of the game the right way, regardless of the opponent, it can bite you in the rear end.”

OSU scored only one of its seven offensive touchdowns in the first quarter, with two punts and a lost fumble before scoring on its next six possessions.

The Cowboys visit Tulsa at 2:30 p.m. Saturday to end the nonconference schedule.

Sanders takes newcomer award

Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders earned the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week award after his second straight game with more than 300 total yards.

Sanders threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 51 Saturday, exiting for the night after a 75-yard touchdown pass to Tylan Wallace on the first play of the third quarter.

Through his first two career games, the redshirt freshman is 31- of -42 passing for 453 yards and six touch downs with 160 rushing yards.

Gundy and his Patton-inspired halftime speech

OSU coach Mike Gundy joked that he needs to work on his pregame pep talks after the Cowboys started so slow on offense against McNeese on Saturday.

Considering t he of f e nse scored on the first play of the third quarter, did he come away feeling better about his halftime speeches?

“It was basically a 12- to15-second, four-letter-word motivation,” Gundy said. “It was a little General (George) Patton- ish. If you ever read his book, you'll follow me on that.”
