Authoritie­s probing officerinv­olved shooting

Authoritie­s are investigat­ing an officer-involved shooting late Monday in southwest Oklahoma City.

Around 11:55 p.m. near SW 72 and Western Avenue, police officer Tyler Arney stopped a vehicle driven by Stanfield Shelby

Stanfield, 24, for a traffic violation, according to authoritie­s.

Police said as Arney approached th eve hicle, Stanfield showed a handgun.

Arney fired at Stanfield, striking him.

Stanfield drove north on Western Avenue, turned west onto SW 59, fired at Arney then threw his gun out of the window, police said.

He continued westbound and struck several curbs t hat disabled his vehicle.

The police pursuit ended on SW 54 east of Portland Avenue, where Stanfield was taken into custody.

Stan field was transporte­d to a hospital where he was treated and released.

He was booked into Oklahoma County jail on complaints of possession of a firearm after former conviction of a felony, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after former conviction of a felony.

A passenger in the vehicle, identified as Glenn Marshall, 28, was not injured during the incident, authoritie­s said.

Arney, who has been on the force for nearly two years, was not injured during the incident.

He has been placed on paid administra­tive leave.

Oklahoma City police said it was the ninth officer-involved shooting of 2019.
