Noble beats Altus for first time in football

Noble beat Altus in football for the first time in history on Friday night.

The Bears won 40- 17. Noble sits atop the District 5A-1 standings at 3-0 and 5-1 overall. Noble is now 1-5 against Altus.

Noble jumped to a quick lead, scoring 14 unanswered points in the first quarter. Altus ( 3- 3, 1- 2) bounced back in the second quarter, and Noble went into halftime with a 20-17 lead. In the second half, the Noble defense didn't allow Altus to score again.

The Bears' defense was led by Gavin Yeager who had 10 tackles and two sacks. He also returned a fumble for a touchdown.

Noble will look to continue its district domination Thursday against Western Heights (3-3, 0-3).

Norman North's Hayes commits to North Carolina State

Norman North swimmer Aiden Hayes will transition from one wolfpack to another when his high school career ends.

The junior announced Monday on Twitter he has committed to North Carolina State.

Hayes star red for the Timberwolv­es as a freshman and sophomore. He was named The Oklahoman's AllCity Swimmer of the Year the past two seasons.

North Carolina State won its fifth-straight ACC men's title last season. Coach Braden Holloway has been named ACC Men's Coach of the Year six times during his tenure with the Wolfpack. He took over the program in 2011.

Mustang's Brown receives player of the week honor

Mustang running back Khary Brown won The Oklahoman's Fan's Choice Player of the Week poll after collecting 266 yards and four touchdowns against Southmoore.

Brown, who earned 403 votes, placed ahead of Crossings Christian quarterbac­k Owen Crotts. Watch oklahoman.com/sports/ high-school for the Week 7 poll this weekend.
