Broyles drafted by XFL's Dallas Renegades, reunites with Stoops

Former Oklahoma star receiver Ryan Broyles is coming out of retirement to reunite with his former coach.

Broyles was drafted by the X FL' sD all as Renegades on Wednesday, placing him in the organizati­on now coached by former Sooners coach Bob Stoops.

Broyles said he wants to help others in various ways.

“Ultimately, I wanted to come out of retirement now, especially with the XFL because It seems like they've got a great platform,” Broyles said in a video posted on the XFL's Twitter page.

A former All-American and Norman native, he played three seasons with the Detroit Lions. He retired and has not played since 2014.

But now he's older and wiser. He has a 4-yearold son and another on the way.

“Hopefully, I can show them what hard work looks like and just continue to chase my dreams and run around again,” Broyles said.

Former OU cornerback Hurst picked by Tampa Bay

Former Oklahoma cornerback Demontre Hurst was one of two in-state defensive backs selected in Wednesday's XFL Draft.

Hurst and former Tulsa safety Dexter McCoil were both selected in the defensive backfield portion of the draft.

Hurst was picked by t he Tampa Bay Vipers in the final selection of Round 3. Two picks later, the St. Louis BattleHawk­s picked McCoil.

Hurst played parts of three seasons with the Chicago Bears after playing four seasons for the Sooners. He last played in the NFL in 2016.

McCoil played in 26 NFL games for San Diego and San Francisco following a breakout rookie season in the CFL, when he was named the league's Most Outstandin­g Rookie in 2014.
