Kendall's knowledge of OU's offense not a concern

NORMAN—Former Sooner quarterback Austin Kendall will return to Norman this weekend as an opponent when Oklahoma hosts West Virginia.

Kendall knows OU' s offense, and he knows how the offensive line operates.

But Bill Bedenbaugh, OU's long time offensive line coach, was stumped when asked if Kendall's familiarity with the scheme will affect calls or signals.

“That's a good question ,” Bedenbaugh said Tuesday .“I haven' t thought about it one bit.”

“We go fast,” Bedenbaugh added. “It's hard to pick up on that stuff, I'm sure. Hell, I didn't even think about it. I have a lot of stuff to worry about. That's not what I need to be worrying about.”

Kendall is questionable to play Saturday after suffering a chest injury last weekend against Iowa State. Kendall has started all six games for the Mountaineers, leading them to a 3-3 record.

The Wax haw, North Carolina, native spent the first three years of his career at OU. He played in six games for the Sooners last season, completing 12 of 17 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown.

He transferred to West Virginia in January.

“Me and Austin are really good friends,” OU center Creed Humphrey said. “It's good to see him have success so far this season. I'll be excited to see him play.”

OU middle linebacker Kenneth Murray was asked about potentially tackling his former teammate.

“It won't be interesting at all,” Murray said. “It's just the next quarterback.”

O-Line finally healthy

Several minor i njuries forced Bed en ba ugh to start a different offensive line combination in each of OU's first five games.

Saturday against Texa was his first repeated lineup: left tackle Eri Swenson, left guard Marqui Hayes, center Humphrey right guard Tyrese Robinson and right tackle Adrian Ealy

“I think it is getting there,” Bedenbaugh said o the group. “Do I think it's a good as it's going to be if they continue to play together No. Obviously that's how i happens, by practicing and repping together.”

Ea ly and Swenson returned Saturday f rom injuries. Bedenbaugh said Ea ly hadn' t practiced in full for three weeks Swenson practiced“on and off” leading up to the Texas game.

“We are healthy ri gh now,” Bedenbaugh said “and hopefully we can stay that way.”

Brooks reflects on injury scare

Kennedy Brooks questioned if his season wa over when he took an ille gal hit to the knee Sept. 28 against Texas Tech.

The Oklahoma running back addressed his injury scare Tuesday for the firs time.

“Getting hit in the knee that's the first thing you think of ,” Brooks said of the potential for seri ous injury. “My knee wa hurting.”

The sophomore was held out for the rest of the Texa Tech game and missed the Kansas game the follow ing week. He returned las Saturday against Texas.

Brooks, now fully healthy, carried the ball 10 times for 105 yards agains the Longhorns.
