Animal rescue group hosts `Howloween' party

The Country Roads Animal Rescue Society will celebrate its fifth anniversar­y from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday with a “Howloween” block party and fundraiser at Ninth Street Bar king Lot, 26 NE 9 St.

The event will include a “Trunk or Treat” for both dogs and kids, doggie costume contest, photo booth, and games and activities, such as bobbing for tennis balls, “pie” eating contest, kissing booth, food trucks, beer bus and handmade pet supply vendors.

Dogs attending the event must be dogfriendl­y, people-friendly and leashed at all times. Dogs also must be 16 weeks or older and fully vaccinated. Entry into the block party for one dog and one adult is $20; “unaccompan­ied” adults are $10, and kids younger than 12 will be admitted for free with a costume and/ or pet supply donation.

Guests can checkin at the Bar king Lot to receive a wristband to play games and get at re at bag f or doggie Trunk or Treat.

A limited number of tickets will be available at the door for $25 and $15, respective­ly.

Country Roads works with shelters to find adopters and fosters for dogs and puppies on euthanasia lists that might be wounded, sick, anxious or just out of time. Since 2014, the group has saved more than 4,000 dogs and puppies from being eu th a ni zed by findin gt he ir“forever” homes, a news release stated. Donations are used to fund expenses, including spaying and neutering, testing, vaccinatio­ns, heartworm treatments, parvo treatments, and medical emergencie­s.
