EDMOND — It took some time for Edmond Santa Fe to get acclimated to the rainy weather conditions against Westmoore.

But once the Wolves got comfortable, they never looked back.

Santa Fe pulled away for a 31-14 victory over the Jaguars on Friday night at Wolves Stadium.

The eighth-ranked Wolves (6-2, 4-1 District 6A-I-1) used their rushing attack to power past No. 9 Westmoore (6-2, 3-2), which was without star quarterback Dayton Wolfe because of a knee injury.

The Wolves' quick and elusive quarterback, Jorgen Olsen, used his legs throughout the game. The senior had 31 rushing attempts for 127 yards. Junior running back Ethan Hyche had 23 carries for 101 yards and two touchdowns.

It l ooked bleak for Santa Fe at t he beginning of t he game. In the opening drive, Westmoore's DeJion Simpkins picked up a fumble by Olsen and returned it 90 yards for a touchdown.

Westmoore had a 14-10 lead at halftime, but Santa Fe stuck with the running game and wore down the Jaguar defense after the break.

Westmoore quart e r back Zane Chavez had a solid first half. His highlight of the game was a 65-yard touchdown pass to Kaibren Grant in the second quarter. Chavez was 13-of-23 passing for 146 yards in the game.

Friday's win was another step in the right direction for

Santa Fe, which notched a 23-21 upset victory at Broken Arrow last week. Coach Kyle White said he is pleased with how his team has improved each week.

“We got better every week,” he said. “We got better defensively. We got more consistent offensively. We're starting to get healthy again. I think we're moving and peaking in the right direction.”
