`Man Camp' mobile home park sold
Keith Wilson, a broker specializing in mobile home parks, just sold an oil patch specialty: a "man camp."
"Only man camp I have ever sold," he said. "There are not very many. It's a particular kind of beast. You see them in heavy oil play areas like Midland-Permian and around big oil refineries."

"It isa man camp ," said Wilson, of Keith Wilson Co. LLC, Oklahoma City ." By man camp, it is a quasimotel in that it caters to maintenance workers that are brought in to Ponca City to do maintenance on the Phillips 66 Oil Refinery — mainly this facility, 300 workers for six weeks twice per year — and also the power plants, wind f arms, oil-and-gas, etc.
"These workers are not permanent residents. The park provides a mobile home living unit with a bed, recliner, TV, kitchenette, linens, furnishings and housekeeping."
The park has 124 sites — 74 for RVs, 13 duplexes, three fourplexes, six cabins, and six mobile homes — on 31.6 acres. The park is on city water, has a lagoon sewer, and has a storm shelter.
"The California buyers of Big Chief anticipate the man camp/RV park to be full due to the recently announced Frontier Windpower II 350 MW wind farm that will be built within 10 miles of the park. Duke Energy Renewables, the owner of the farm, has said it will employ 250 workers during the 1 1/2year construction phase and many will stay at Big Chief."
Wilson said the same buyers purchased a similar operation ,133- site Big Chief in Coffey ville, Kansas, two months ago, and that both markets are dominated by a large oil refinery.
