BREAKOUT SEASON

- Wire reports

Junior wide receiver Steven Brown is emerging as a star for Stillwater

Former Oklahoma star Baker Mayfield's frustration finally boiled over. The losing is beating him.

Annoyed with a reporter's l i ne of questioning about a drive at the end of the first half in last week's loss at New England, the Browns' fiery quarterback abruptly ended his weekly interview session on Wednesday and stormed off.

Mayfield, who i s ti ed f or the NFL lead with 12 interceptions, grew increasingly a g i t a t e d whe n a r e p o r t e r asked him about a failed twominute drive in a 27-13 loss to the Patriots. The Browns were called f or a penalty, which Mayfield said prevented them from moving the ball.

“Was I happy with the drive? No, we didn't score points,” Mayfield chirped. “That's the dumbest question you could ask. What?”

Mayfield then disgustedly walked away from the lectern and toward his locker.

Soon after, the former No. 1 overall pick went on Twitter to explain his exasperation. Picked by some experts to win the AFC North, the Browns ( 2- 5) haven't pl ayed up t o enormous expectations and have lost three straight games.

Redskins say Trent Williams failed physical for helmet discomfort

S t a n d o u t l e f t t a c k l e Trent Williams is back at the Washington Redskins' practice facility, but there's no certainty the former Oklahoma standout will play at all this season.

Williams didn't practice Wednesday, less than 24 hours after reporting following a lengthy holdout. Interim coach Bill Callahan said the 31-year-old failed his physical and couldn't practice because of discomfort with his helmet.

“All I know is the helmet wasn't comfortable, little discomfort in there,” Callahan said.

Williams previously had a growth on his head removed, and the dispute that led to his holdout centered on Washington's medical staff and its handling of that situation. The Redskins announced they got a roster exemption for the seven-time Pro Bowl selection, who was not in the locker room when it was open to reporters.

Callahan, who was offensive line coach before taking over for the fired Jay Gruden, said he spoke with Williams for an hour and added he took part in morning meetings.

Callahan was noncommittal about whether Williams would play for Washington t his s eason. Multiple outlets reported this week that Williams had no intention of playing.
