The Oklahoman

3-2-1 KICK OFF

- Abby Bitterman, Staff writer

Here's a look at what to watch for when the Sooners take on Iowa State at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Three players to watch

Kenneth Murray: The linebackers will be important to get Oklahoma's defense back on track after the loss at Kansas State. Murray is a leader for that group and will need to play well if the Sooners want to avoid a repeat of their last outing.

Kennedy Brooks/ Trey Sermon/Rhamondre

Stevenson: After Oklahoma's running backs totaled six carries against Kansas State, any of the three running backs could be primed for a big game as the Soonerstry to re-establish their running game. All three backs are listed as the possible starter, according to OU's depth chart.

Gabe Brkic: Brkic had a big game against Kansas Stat, and may have been the Sooners' best player on the field. The redshirt freshman kicker has been perfect on field goals so far this season, going 10-of-10 with a career long 50-yard field goal under his belt.

Two big questions

Will the running backs get more carries? Quarterback

Jalen Hurts had the lion's share of the carries against the Wildcats, and has run the ball for the Sooners a lot this season. The running backs will almost certainly get more carries this week, but the question of exactly how many times Hurts hands the ball off to Oklahoma's running backs on Saturday remains.

Will the Sooners finally get a turnover? The month of October came and went without Oklahoma recording a turnover in a game. Defensive coordinator Alex Grinch has made getting turnovers a big focus and goal of the Sooners' defense. Will this be the week Oklahoma forces a turnover for the first time since Sept. 28?

One bold prediction

Oklahoma will win by more

than two touchdowns. A few weeks ago, this wouldn't be such a bold prediction, as it is what the Sooners have done most of the season. But Iowa State hasn't lost a game by more than a touchdown this season, and Oklahoma is coming off a loss where it gave up 48 points. Still, Oklahoma will be hungry to prove the K-State game was an anomaly.
