Georgia-Auburn tops a great Saturday

- Berry Tramel

Saturday arrives with all kinds of games that will affect the College Football Playoff, and not just OU-Baylor in Waco. An SEC showdown, a Big Ten showdown, even a Pac-12 game with all kinds of intrigue.

Here are the top 10 non-Big 12 games, along with an upset special from out West and a coach on the hot seat in the SEC.

1. Georgia at Auburn, 2:30 p.m. Saturday, CBS:

Shades of 2017, when the Bulldogs made the national championship game by splitting two robust games with War Eagle down the stretch.

2. Minnesota at Iowa, 3 p.m. Saturday, Fox:

The Golden Gophers' reward for upsetting Penn State? A trip to Iowa City.

3. UCLA at Utah, 7 p.m. Saturday, Fox:

4. Indiana at Penn State, 11 a.m. Saturday, ABC:

Against Penn State, Minnesota proved it was for real. Now Indiana gets a turn.

5. Navy at Notre Dame, 1:30 p.m. Saturday, NBC:

The Midshipmen (7-1) have a better record than do the Fighting Irish (7-2). Who saw that coming?

6. Virginia Tech at Georgia Tech, 2:30 p.m. Saturday, ACC Network:

Justin Fuente has rallied the Hokies after a rough start; now they need to win to set up a division title game with Virginia.

7. Wake Forest at Clemson, 2:30 p.m. Saturday, ABC:

Clemson has no top-25 team on its schedule? The Tigers can take care of that by losing to the Demon Deacons.

8. Arizona at Oregon, 9:30 p.m. Saturday, ESPN:

Twelve years ago, an Arizona November upset ended the Ducks' national title hopes. Can history repeat?

9. Fresno State at San Diego State, 8:30 p.m. Saturday, ESPN2:

The Aztecs can sew up the Mountain West's West Division. But Fresno State can create total chaos.

10. LSU at Ole Miss, 6 p.m. Saturday, ESPN:

An underrated Deep South rivalry, albeit one-sided these days.

Coach on the hot seat

Ada's Barry Odom took over under difficult circumstances as Missouri's head coach, in the wake of Gary Pinkel's retirement and amid race-relation issues in Columbia.

Odom has had his moments, notably two straight victories over Florida. But the Tigers are 5-4 this season against a mediocre schedule and are 24-23 overall under Odom.

Mizzou has lost three straight, all on the road — 21-14 at Vanderbilt, 29-7 at Kentucky and 27-0 at Georgia.

Back home, Missouri plays Florida on Saturday. It's the Tigers' final chance at a marquee victory. Mizzou likely could be bowl eligible (if the NCAA rescinds Mizzou's one-year bowl ban) with Arkansas remaining on the schedule, but another so-so record won't engender confidence that Odom is taking Missouri to the heights that Pinkel achieved in both the Big 12 and the SEC.

Upset special

The Golden Bears seemed headed for a special season. They won road games at Washington and

Ole Miss, en route to a 4-0 start.

But Cal then lost four straight, the first three close (Arizona State 24-17, Oregon 17-7, Oregon State 21-17).

Then last week, the Bears regrouped and beat Washington State 33-20. Now comes Southern Cal, which is 6-4 and suffering through a disappointing season.

USC coach Clay Helton seems sure to be fired, and you can't blame the Trojans if they're looking ahead, either to arch-rival UCLA next week or their next coach.

The Trojans are six-point favorites, but let's go with California in the upset.

Upset special record: 3-8
