Kolby Harvell-Peel to miss Texas Bowl with injury

HOUSTON — Oklahoma State will be without one of its best defensive players in the Texas Bowl, coach Mike Gundy said Thursday.

Safety Kolby HarvellPeel, who grew up not far from the Texas A&M campus in College Station, will not play when the No. 25 Cowboys face the Aggies at 5:45 p.m. Friday at NRG Stadium.

Harvell- Peel, a true sophomore, was voted by the team as the defensive MVP.

He was a first- team All-Big 12 defensive back by the coaches and the Associated Press.

Harvell- Peel suffered a knee injury on the final play of the Cowboys' loss to Oklahoma on Nov. 30, sources told The Oklahoman.

OSU also will be without safety Tre Sterling for the first half Friday as he serves the final part of his suspension for a targeting penalty against OU.

Jason Taylor II, a redshirt freshman from Carl Albert High School, and sophomore Tanner McCalister are the players likely to enter the starting lineup.

Chuba Hubbard sees speed, strength on Texas A&M defense

Texas A& M is without star defensive tackle Justin Madubuike, but Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard says

the Aggie defense can't be taken lightly, even without an NFL-caliber player in the middle.

“They fly around,” Hubbard said. “They hustle. They're strong, fast. They're just a great football team. Obviously, yeah, they're without him. He was a great player obviously, but you know, they're still a great defense. It'll be a good challenge. Looking forward to seeing them.”

Texas A&M has allowed 129.1 yards per game this season, while Hubbard has averaged 161.3 himself.

Texas A&M preparing for both Cowboy QBs

If Gundy was simply being a gamesman when he began saying Dru Brown and Spencer Sanders would both play quarterback for the Cowboys on Friday, it worked.

Texas A&M defensive back Keldrick Carper says the team has been

preparing for both players.

“We watched film on both the guys, and they both are pretty good players,” he said. “I know ( Sanders), he can really run and he can sling it. They're both talented players, so you know, come ( Friday), we'll be prepared for either one to step on the field.”

Brown started the final two games of the regular season, after Sanders suffered a thumb injury on his throwing hand that required surgery.

He was medically cleared Dec. 16 and returned to practice.
