Oscar noms: Brad Pitt earns supporting actor nod
Movie star and Oklahoma native Brad Pitt will have the chance to add another Academy Award to his crowded trophy case.
Pitt, who was born in Shawnee and grew up in Springfield, Missouri, earned a nod as the 2020 Oscar nominations were announced Monday morning.
He is nominated for best supporting actor for playing Cliff Booth, the stunt man pa land side kick of a fading actor in Quentin Tar anti no' s" Once Upon a Time in Hollywood."
It is Pitt' s fourth Oscar nomination for his acting.
Pitt already is an Academy Award winner, although not as a performer: He shared in the best picture honor in 2014 as one of the producers of "12 Years a Slave."
"Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" boasts 10 Oscar no mi nations, tying it with Sam Men des' first-person World War I odyssey “1917" as well as Martin Scorsese's gangster epic “The Irishman."
Scorsese is getting a deep awards season run with "The Irishman" before he begins work on his eagerly awaited adaptation of the truecrime story "Killers of the Flower Moon" in
March in Oklahoma. With his best director nod for "The Irishman," he has nine best director nominations in his career, making him the most nominated living director in Academy Awards history.
Todd Phillips' R-rated smash "Joker," starring Joaquin Phoenix as a failed mentally ill comedian who turns to crime and eventually becomes Batman' s nemesis, nabbed Oscar 11 nominations and became just the second comicbook movie nominated for best picture, following2018' s" Black Panther."
The nine best picture nominees this year are "Joker," "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood ," "The Irishman," "1917," “Ford vF err ari ,” “Jojo Rabbit,” “Little Women ,”“Marriage Story” and “Parasite.”
The 92nd Academy Awards will be handed out Feb. 9 on ABC.
For the second year, t he Oscars ceremony will not have a host.
