I-235 closure set for Jan. 24

Interstate 235 will be closed to through traffic at the Interstate 44 interchang­e during the weekend of Jan. 24, state transporta­tion officials announced Tuesday.

The closure is planned to allow the constructi­on contractor to hang new bridge beams over the interstate.

Both north bound and southbound lanes on I-235 will be closed between N 50 Street and N 63 Street, officials said. Closure of the interstate is

scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Jan. 24, after evening rush-hour traffic.

The interstate is expected to re open no later than 6 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, weather permitting.

It may reopen sooner if the work is complete.

Several ramp sin the area also will be closed during this time period.

The Jan. 24 closure will be the first of as many as five full interstate closures that are expected this year as work continues on the $105 million interchang­e project.

State transporta­tion officials are encouragin­g motorists to use alternativ­e routes such as I-35, State Highway 74/ Lake Hefner Parkway, Lincoln Boulevard and Martin Luther King Avenue while constructi­on is in progress.

I-35 lane restrictio­ns

Transporta­tion officials also announced that traffic lanes will be narrowed at night to one lane in each direction on Interstate 35 at Ladd Road near Goldsby beginning Wednesday.

Lanes will be narrowed from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday and from 8 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday to permit overhead bridge work.In addition, north- and southbound I -35 will be in termittent­ly narrowed to one lane at this location from 8 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday.

The process will be repeated nightly through Jan. 25.

No Friday night lane closures are planned, officials said.
