The Chickasaw Nation re branded Bank 2 as Chickasaw Community Bank in an unveiling ceremony Tuesday.

The new name, Chickasaw Gov. Bill Anoatubby said, reflects the commitment the bank has had to the Oklahoma City community for nearly two decades.

“The commitment that we as the Chickasaw Nation and this bank has to local economic development,” he said. “More than that, t his name change better represents our tribe, our traditions and the history of building communities.”

In 1901, the tribe built its first financial institution in Indian Territory by establishing t he Bank of the Chickasaw Nation in Tishomingo with $25,000 in capital.

Then 101 years later, Bank 2 was founded in Oklahoma City with $ 7.5 million in assets. It now has more than $200 million in assets. It's consistently rated highly among other U.S. banks and is a top lender for Native American homeownership.

State, local and tribal dignitaries attended the unveiling, including Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt.

“What' s what' s in a name?” Holt said. “A lot. A name is what brings to mind all the things we associate with the brand. When Disney opens a theme park, they don't name it Theme Park 2; they name it Disney World, because we associate so many good things with Disney.”

The Chickasaw name, Holt said, makes him think of creativity, integrity and success.

“And it is probably long over due that this bank finally carry that strong brand name,” said Holt.

The ceremony included an unveiling of the bank's new logo and signage on its building at 909 S Meridian.

“That symbol is actually a `C', but it pays homage to a valuable Chickasaw symbol, which is the Chickasaw sun,” said bank CEO T.W. Shannon, describing t he new logo. The sun“represents hope, new life, regeneration, rebirth and also growth.”
