Rose State College has received nearly $100,000 in a grant to finance a partnership with Midwest City-Del City Public Schools.

The National Endowment for the Humanities chose Rose State as a recipient of the competitive grant, which is part of a $30.9 million national endowment to support 188 humanities projects across 45 states and the District of Columbia.

The grant will finance a partnership with the MidDel school district lasting two and a half years. The college will share academic resources, scholars and expertise with the district to enhance humanities curriculum and learning for underserved high school students.

A visiting professor program will provide classroom lectures, establishment of academic clubs and a shared labs program for Rose State faculty to assist high school students during their open periods. The grant will facilitate travel for participants to nearby cultural sites and events.

“The Rose State Humanities Division faculty are the driving force behind this grant,” Rose State Humanities Dean Toni Castillo said. “Our professors' commitment to the community is powerful, as is their passion for the humanities. Working alongside the dedicated teachers at Del City and Midwest City high schools, we will create a superb learning environment rivaling any other in the nation.”

Rose State is a college of 13,000 students with its main campus in Midwest City. The college was named after former Mid-Del Superintendent Oscar Rose.
