American Airlines soon will offer daily direct flights from OKC to New York City
Oklahomans will have an option for direct flights to New York this year when American Airlines adds a daily route to and from Oklahoma City.
The daily flights between Will Rogers World Airport and LaGuardia Airport will begin June 4.
“This is genuinely good news for Oklahoma City,” Airports Director Mark Kranenburg said. “New York LaGuardia has been a much sought- after destination; one that will greatly enhance the air service options for our travelers.”
United Airlines operates nonstop service to Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey, but those flights are suspended seasonally between January and April.
Kranenburg said American Airlines' recent nonstop additions to Ronald Reagan National in Washington, D.C., and Miami International Airport are representative of Oklahoma City's positive energy and growth.
New York is the ninth city
with direct American Airlines flights from Oklahoma City. The average number of daily departures for the airline will increase to 22.
The new LaGuardia service will operate once daily, using the Embraer 175 aircraft offering two classes of service. The flights will leave Oklahoma City shortly after 6 a.m., and arrive back in Oklahoma about 10 p.m.
Flights go on sale
Monday.
Will Rogers World Airport has seen daily service additions this year, along with American
Airlines' D.C. and Miami additions. Southwest Airlines added Nashville, along with daily flights to Houston Hobby and
Phoenix Sky Harbor.
Almost a year ago, construction began to expand the terminal and add four gates at Will Rogers World Airport. Passengers and visitors to the airport will have 150,000 additional square feet once the project is finished.
The airport currently has 18 gates, and all of them are in use. Three of the four new gates will be used by Delta Airlines. The fourth won't be leased, but instead will be used by the airport as needed, such as if a flight needs to divert to Oklahoma City because of weather.
