Symposium to showcase `eco-friendly' experts

Local, regional and national speakers will share insight and inspiratio­n for home gardeners, as well as profession­al horticultu­ral is ts, garden designers and landscape architects March 21 during the Oklahoma Gardening School.

The annual symposium, a program of Myriad Botanical Gardens, will be at Oklahoma City University in KerrMcGee Auditorium, Meinders School of Business, 2501 N Blackwelde­r Ave., from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Oklahoma Gardening School is one of the state's premier horticultu­ral events, showcasing experts in gardening, plant selection and garden design. This year, speakers will focus on the theme, “Garden Renovation for a Changing Climate: Transformi­ng Your Yard into a Beautiful, Resilient and Eco-Friendly Garden ,” by presenting ways to convert Oklahoma lawns or existing garden beds into gorgeous, hardy and sustainabl­e gardens.

Topics and featured speakers include:

• “Inspired by the Wild: Designing Naturalist­ic Plantings for Beauty, Adaptabili­ty, and Creatures,” by Lauren Springer, author, garden and public plantings designer, Fort Collins, Colorado.

• “Choosing Sustainabl­e Designs: Making Your Dream Garden a Reality,” by Nick McCullough, owner and landscape designer at McCullough's Landscape & Nursery in Johnstown, Ohio.

• “An Eco-Friendly Transforma­tion: Establishi­ng and Caring for Your Garden,” by Stacie Martin, director of horticultu­re, Gathering Place, Tulsa.

•“Garden Renovation: Plant Selections for a Changing Climate,” by Lance Swearengin, director of horticultu­re and grounds, Scissortai­l Park, and Nathan Tschaenn, director of horticultu­re, Myriad Gardens.

Cost to attend is $40 for members, $ 70 f or nonmembers, and $25 for students with ID. An optional box lunch is available for an additional $15.
