Meetings

Oklahoma Gardeners Associatio­n: 9:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Will Rogers Gardens auditorium, 3400 NW 36. Speaker will be Andrine Shuffran, Oklahoma State University professor, on “The Buzz About Bees.”

Late Bloomers Garden Club: noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 18, Will Rogers Gardens. Flower arranging demonstrat­ion by Master Gardener Judith Miracle.

Workshops

Seed Starting Workshop: 10 a.m. Feb. 8, Myriad Botanical Gardens, 301 W Reno Ave. Members $14, nonmembers $19. Register by Feb. Tuesday at myriadgard­ens. org. Learn how to start annual flowers, native perennials, vegetables and herbs with instructio­n by Bill Farris, of the Oklahoma Department of Agricultur­e, Food and Forestry. Also hear proven techniques for potting, watering and lighting. Participan­ts will plant a variety of seeds to take home and grow.

How to Make Kokedama, Japanese Moss Ball Planters: 6 p.m. Feb. 12, Wednesday @ Will Rogers, Will Rogers Gardens Exhibition Building, 3400 NW 36. Master Gardeners will be teaching and demonstrat­ing how to make kokedama.

Step into Spring Workshop: 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 21, Oklahoma County Extension Center, 2500 NE 63. Early spring planting, pruning, lawn care, landscape water needs, vegetable garden prep, and other topics, plus the county extension registered dietitian will demonstrat­e how to prepare healthy seasonal recipes, provide a food tasting and offer seasonal recipes. Registrati­on is free, but you must register by calling 713-1125.

How to Start Growing Your Own Food: 10 a.m. Feb. 29, Myriad Botanical Gardens. Members $12, nonmembers $17. Register by Feb. 27 at myriadgard­ens.org. Dale Spoonemore, creator of From Seed to Spoon, will explain how to grow and harvest organic produce in your own backyard. Oklahoma Orchid Society: 10 a.m. to noon March 7, “Let's Repot that Orchid!” Will Rogers Gardens. Hands-on help repotting your orchid. Materials supplied. Fee $10. Register at okc.gov/ parks.

Family Workshop — Spring Terrariums: 6-7:30 p.m. March 13, Myriad Botanical Gardens. Members $13, nonmembers $15. Best for ages 6 to 10. Register by March 24 at myriadgard­ens.org. Create a terrarium, an 8-inch glass globe planter, using easy-to-care-for succulents and some added spring-inspired mini items.

Oklahoma Gardening School: Garden Renovation for a Changing Climate — Transformi­ng Your Yard into a Beautiful, Resilient and Eco-Friendly Garden, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 21. Kerr-McGee Auditorium in the Meinders School of Business at Oklahoma City University. Presented by the Meinders Foundation. Gardening in Dry-Shade Conditions: 10 a.m. to noon March 28, Myriad Botanical Gardens. Members $9, nonmembers $14. Landscaper architectu­re professor Dave Edwards, Gibbs College of Architectu­re at the University of Oklahoma, and water conservati­on coordinato­rs from the city of Oklahoma City will present informatio­n on selecting and cultivatin­g drought-resistant, dry-shade plants for hardy low-ground cover, conservati­ve watering techniques, mulch and rain barrels. Guided Walking Tour: 10-11 a.m. Feb. 29, March 28, Myriad Botanical Gardens, 301 W Reno Ave. Free. Meet in South Lobby Visitor Center. Geared toward adults; children and leashed dogs welcome.

The Great Backyard Bird Count: 10-11:30 a.m. Feb. 15, Myriad Botanical Gardens. Members $4, nonmembers $6. Register by Feb. 11 at myriadgard­ens.org. Count birds in the “backyard” of Myriad Gardens and join scientists and bird watchers all over the world for the annual Great Backyard Bird Count. Learn how to identify common birds in Oklahoma City, then head outside and start counting. Findings will be reported to the Cornell Lab of Ornitholog­y at Cornell University.

Urban Hike from Myriad Gardens: 11 a.m. to noon March 28, May 30, July 25, Sept. 25, Myriad Botanical Gardens. A new add-on option to the Guided Monthly Walking Tour! Hike for another hour lead by YMCA instructor­s. Target downtown locations announced before each hike on Myriad Gardens social media. Bring water and wear comfortabl­e clothing and shoes.
