Livestock report from the Oklahoma City Stockyards: Oklahoma Weekly Cattle Auction Summary Livestock Weighted Average Report for the week of Jan. 27 through Thursday. Receipts: 28,906; Last reported: 32,164; Last year: 32,198 Compared to last week: Combined weighted average for seven feeder auctions: Ada, Apache, McAlester, Oklahoma City, OKC West, Tulsa, and Woodward. Feeder steers sold steady to $7 lower. Feeder heifers $4-$7 lower. Steer calves $5-$10 lower and heifer calves steady to $7 lower. Demand was moderate for all classes. Many barns experience­d lighter runs this week as a winter mix moved across the state earlier in the week. Slaughter cows steady to $5 higher. Slaughter bulls $2-$5 higher. Demand was good for slaughter cows and bulls. Supply included: 92% Feeder Cattle (0% -, 54% Steers, 44% Heifers, 2% Bulls); 5% Slaughter Cattle (86% Cows, 1% -, 14% Bulls); 2% Replacemen­t Cattle (82% Bred Cows, 2% -, 2% Bred Heifers, 14% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 45%. For Nass: 2,146 cows and bulls sold this week with 72 percent going to packers. Last week: 1,550 cows and bulls sold with 66 percent going to packers. Last year: 2,486 cows and bulls sold this week with 42 percent going to packers. SLAUGHTER CATTLE

Live cattle in the Southern Plains sold $2 lower and too lightly tested in Nebraska. Cattle on a dressed basis in Nebraska sold $4 lower this week. Slaughter cattle on a national basis for negotiated cash trades through Friday afternoon totaled 79,958 head. Last week's total head count was 105,895 head. Midwest Direct Markets: Nebraska Live Basis: Steers and Heifers: few $122. Dressed Basis: Steers and Heifers: $195. South Plains Direct Markets: Kansas and Texas Live Basis: Steers and Heifers: $122.

Federally Inspected Cattle: 637,000 head up 7.4 percent from a year ago.

CATTLE INVENTORY

All cattle and calves in the United States as of Jan. 1, 2020 totaled 94.4 million, slightly below the 94.8 million head on January 1, 2019. All cows and heifers that have calved, at 40.7 million head were 1 percent below the 41.0 million head on Jan. 1, 2019. Beef cows, at 31.3 million head, were down 1 percent from a year ago. Beef replacemen­t heifers, at 5.77 million head, were down 2 percent from a year ago. Cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the United States for all feedlots totaled 14.7 million head on January 1, 2020. The inventory is up 2 percent from the Jan. 1, 2019 total of 14.4 million head. The 2019 calf crop in the United States was estimated at 36.1 million head, down 1 percent from last year's calf crop. Western Cornbelt Direct Lean Hog Base Price: Weighted average price of packers bids on a carcass basis delivered to packing plants as of Friday $54.59. HOG FUTURES Dressed Basis: (74% yield): Feb. $57.13; April $61.60; May $70.03; June $76.85. HOG SLAUGHTER Federally Inspected Hogs: 2.703 million head up 14.0 percent from a year ago. SHEEP SLAUGHTER Federally Inspected Sheep: 39,000 head up 11.4 percent from a year ago. BOXED BEEF Estimated Composite Boxed Beef Cutout Values: Friday Box beef cut-out values: up down $0.77 from last Friday. Choice 600-900 lbs. $213; Select 600-900 lbs. $210.66. MEAT PRODUCTION Beef: 526.0 million lbs. up 8.5 percent from a year ago. Pork: 584.8 million lbs. up 15.1 percent from a year ago. Lamb: 2.6 million lbs. up 8.3 percent from a year ago.
