Recoveries at nursing home top 40

NORMAN — More t han 40 residents have fully recovered from COVID-19 at the first nursing home in the state to have a known outbreak of the respirator­y disease.

Grace Skilled Nursing and Therapy in Norman made the announceme­nt Tuesday.

“Many more are actively recovering ,” the nursing home said .“The battle is not over and we must remain vigilant against any reoccurren­ce of the virus, but this is obviously welcome news.

“It is also a tribute to the dedication of the facility's medical team and staff who have worked tirelessly to care for our residents. They are truly heroes. We also want to again say thank you to our families for their patience and support.

“We recognize the sacrifices they are making in order to help us keep their loved ones safe.”

Since the outbreak began in March, 72 residents and 10 employees have been infected, according to statistics kept by the Health Department. Of that total, 10 died.

“We want to always remember the members of our community lost to this virus ,” the nursing home said. “They are missed by all of us and our hearts continue to go out to their loved ones during this very difficult time.

The total number of COVID-19 deaths associated with state nursing homes and long-term care facilities stood at 111 Wednesday.

The most is at the Bart les ville Health and Rehabilita­tion Community, the state Health Department reported. The death toll there stood at 16 Wednesday.

The next highest — 14 — is at the Grove Nursing Center.
