Ted's plans new concept in Uptown

- Staff reports

Ted's Café Escondido i s expanding into Uptown with the launch of a new fast casual brand that will open in space that was previously home to Pizza 23 and Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt.

Ted's Tacos and Cantina is scheduled to open at 600 NW 23 this summer.

“This concept is something we have been discussing and planning for the past couple years, long before the recent pandemic hit our restaurant industry so hard,” said David Foxx, chief operations officer for Ted's. “This new concept not only allows us to enter the fast casual market, but also allows us to offer new dining options, such as contactless ordering and patio seating, that we know guests are looking for in this new era of dining out.”

Ted's started out in 1991 and its 10 restaurants across the state are full-service dining.

Ted's Tacos and Cantina's fast-casual setting will include counter service, a full-service bar and dog-friendly patio seating.

“We're excited to finally break ground and begin to see this new concept come to life, and we're looking forward to joining the

Uptown community and being a part of the massive growth that is happening in this area,” Foxx said.

The home of the new restaurant, the Mesta Building, was renovated into a mix of retail and offices in 2012. Orange Leaf and

Pizza 23 were the original anchor tenants. Orange Leaf closed last year, and Pizza 23 closed earlier this month.

The combined space will total 3,995 square feet with seating capacity at 125 not including the balcony.
