• Local school districts schedule virtual graduation ceremonies,
Oklahoma City Public Schools will honor more than 1,700 graduating high school seniors with virtual ceremonies this weekend.
The school district worked with an audiovisual company to create a graduation video unique to each high school. The prerecorded videos will release on a Class of 2020 webpage at the time and date each school was scheduled to have its graduation ceremony.
Each video will include remarks from Superintendent Sean McDaniel, district school board members, the school principal, and class officers or a valedictorian. Students were able to receive a cap and gown, a personalized yard sign and a printed program for their graduation.
The district canceled all spring graduations to prevent spread of the coronavirus. The district opted for virtual ceremonies instead, with no scheduled date for in-person graduations later in the year.
"Whether it' s virtually or in person, our message remains the same: Congratulations, graduates. You have exciting lives ahead of you and your OKCPS
family wishes you nothing but success in the days and years to come,” McDaniel said in a statement.
