County sale, showhouse to go on

- Richard Mize

Catching up this week after a week of furlough ...

Going, going on

The Oklahoma County Treasurer's Resale — the auctioning of properties for taxes owed will go on as scheduled next month but with social distancing observed because of the coronavirus.

The sale will be from 8

a.m. to 5 p.m. June 8 and every business day as needed until done at the Oklahoma County Election Board, 4201 N Lincoln Blvd., with people

6 feet apart.

Just six people had registered for the sale by Friday. Normally, about 300 people are seated in the room, but this year there is capacity for 125 in chairs plus a few spaces where people can stand. Potential bidders can get to the list by going to www.oklahomacounty. org/Treasurer, clicking on "Resale," then clicking on "Resale Active List."

Or go directly to https:// docs.oklahomacounty.org/ treasurer/ResaleActiveList. asp.

The public since last year has had instant access to view the properties online,

but remember: These are always "buyer beware" sales.

Good move

Brent Conway, a seasoned office broker, has left CBRE and joined Newmark Grubb Levy Strange Beffort as senior vice president for office brokerage.

"I believe all of us who know Brent regard him as a professional, ethical and highly principled member of the real estate community in Oklahoma City,” said Mark Beffort, CEO of Newmark Grubb Levy Strange Beffort.

Yes. Now this is me talking, not Conway, and not Beffort. Conway was with CBRE in Oklahoma for 16 years. Maybe now he can let us know what he's up to. CBRE will not let its brokers make their own decisions about talking to The Oklahoman about their work, which often involves real estate sales and development that people have a right to know without strict corporate control — from Dallas.

Conway "has established himself as a successful office broker in our market,” Beffort said. “No doubt he will help us grow our office platform throughout Oklahoma. In addition, Brent will be a welcome mentor to our younger office brokers and will help us embrace some growing office specialties in both the Oklahoma City and Tulsa markets.”

Congratulations, Brent. Holler at me sometime. Congratulations, Mark. I know you won't mum his words without good reason.

Music to our ears

The Symphony Showhouse will go on, with social distancing observed because of the coronavirus, June 13-28 at 2737 Guilford Lane, which is listed with Wyatt Poindexter Group of KW Luxury Homes International for $3.25 million.

The show house has been an annual fundraiser for the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and its music education programs since 1973. It will open its doors from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily with the first hour reserved for those at higher risk for COVID-19. The Symphony Show House will adhere to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, state and local guidance for health and safety.

Grab a mask and go check it out: "This completely renovated property includes a brand-new custom pool and half-basketball court. Remodeled by locally owned-and-operated A-List Construction, the house boasts nearly 8,000 square feet with five bedrooms, nine bathrooms and floorto-ceiling commercial windows, marble, steel and rustic wood beams."

Realty check

Homes.com polled 1,000-plus real estate agents to see how their business has been affected — and might remain affected — by COVID-19. Most had high hopes.

• 70% said they expect to have closings in the next 30 to 60 days.

• Nearly 60% have had no listing cancellations since economic shutdowns began.

• Nearly 60% are revamping social media during the shutdown.

Booming 'burbs?

Remote working because of COVID-19 could make suburbs more attractive.

A new Zillow survey from The Harris

Poll finds 75% of those working from home would like the option of continuing to do so at least half the time. If they had that flexibility, 66% said they would be at least "somewhat likely" to consider moving.

Zillow said the survey "suggests if given the option to work from home, people would want to upsize to a home with more rooms and a designated office space, and half would consider a commute up to 45 minutes or longer.
