Public input sought on transportation priorities

- By Randy Ellis Staff writer rellis@oklahoman.com

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is seeking public input on what the state's transportation priorities should be for the next 25 years.

Rather than focusing on individual projects, department officials said they want to know what people's priorities are for various types or travel and freight movement in the state.

They want to know how people prioritize things like highways, passenger and freight rail service, public transit, bicycle and pedestrian paths and lanes, ports, waterways and airport access.

Oklahomans interested in expressing their views can visit the website www.ok long range plan. org between June 2 and June 23, where they will be asked to take a short online survey. Feedback from the survey will be incorporated into the 25-year planning document.

A formal public comment period will follow from June 29 to July 29, when people will be invited to submit comments by email, mail or telephone. Comments and questions can be submitted by email to lrtp@ o dot. org or mailed by letter to Matthew Swift, Oklahoma Department of Transportation, Strategic Asset and Performance Management Division,

200 NE 21 St., Oklahoma City, OK 73105. Verbal comments can be made by calling 405-522-6879.

Once the 25-year planning document is complete, it will be voted on by the Oklahoma Transportation Commission and submitt ed to the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Transit Administration, the two primary sources of federal funding for Oklahoma Department of Transportation projects.
