Former Oklahoma running back Roy Finch is charged with felony assualt

NORMAN — Former OU running back Roy Finch was charged Wednesday with felony domestic assault and battery "resulting in great bodily harm."

The incident occurred Tuesday, and also resulted in Finch being charged with preventing or interrupting an emergency telephone call.

According to the Norman police report detailing the incident, the victim alleged Finch woke her up and began harassing her. After she asked him to stop, she said she grabbed a belt to get him to leave her alone before Finch grabbed it and slapped her, knocking her over.

He also kept her from calling 911, grabbing her wrist, according to the report.

Police observed a visible red mark along her left cheek and dried blood on her lips and she couldn't open her mouth all the way, according to the report.

According to the affidavit filed by Norman police, the victim was confirmed to have multiple open fractures of her jaw.

Finch was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance in Lincoln County in 2018. In April of that year, he was charged with assault and battery on a police officer and a dashcam video of that incident was released to the media.

A jury trial in that case is scheduled for this fall, according to the Oklahoma State Courts Network.

Finch was arrested in 2019 for kidnapping and domestic abuse after a girlfriend accused him of punching her multiple times and refusing to let her leave his Oklahoma City motel room.

Those charges were dismissed last summer.

Finch ran for 1,412 yards and six touchdowns for the Sooners from 2010- 13. He also had two receiving touchdowns.

Finch spent time in the Canadian Football League after leaving OU, earning CFL Outstanding Special Teams Player honors in 2017.
