The state's unemployment agency has scheduled two claim processing events in Ardmore to help alleviate the backlog of issues in southern Oklahoma.

The events on July 29, and July 30, will operate like the other events scheduled by the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Officials expect to serve 1,200 people at the Ardmore Convention Center during those two days, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. There will be indoor, socially-distanced waiting areas for all claimants after they check in.

Claimants will need a pass to get inline on those two days, however. They can pick up a pass on July 28 starting at 9 a.m. at the Ardmore Convention Center.

OESC discourages staying overnight to obtain a pass.

“We have been able to serve more than 8,000 Oklahomans at our Oklahoma City and Tulsa events to date, but recognize that many throughout the state are still in need of assistance,” said OESC Interim Executive Director Shelley Zumwalt. “The Ardmore events will allow us the opportunity to better serve Oklahomans all over the state. We will cont i nue processing cl aims as quickly and safely as possible.”

OESC said it will continue to assess the need for additional events across the state.

Staff members from the agency and Conduent, a service provider, will be able to help with pandemic-related unemployment assistance, unfinished claims, missing payment cards, fraudulent claims, language and technological assistance, as well as initial claim filing assistance. Some claimants could receive their payment on the same day, OESC said.
