OKC man sentenced to more than 10 years in heroin, gun case
An Oklahoma City man was sentenced this week in federal court to more than 10 years in prison for heroin possession, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing a firearm while trafficking drugs.
In January, Tiahmo Lenell Draine, 47, was convicted after a federal trial.
Shortly after midnight on July 3, 2019, a woman called 911 to report Draine was chasing her in a gray truck after shooting at her during an altercation at a convenience store.
Oklahoma City police followed Draine after he exited
Interstate 44, drove into a residential neighborhood and parked in a yard.
Authorities said D raine exited the truck wearing a backpack. After trying to hide near the front of the truck, D raine followed law enforcement commands and was arrested.
Officers discovered a .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol under the truck. Inside the backpack, they found heroin, a digital scale, and drug ledgers.
At the convenience store, an officer found a spent shell casing near the gas pumps. A firearms examiner later determined the .40 caliber found in Draine's possession fired the shell casing located near the gas pumps.
Senior U.S. District Judge Stephen P. Friot sentenced Draine to serve 130 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
The sentence included 70 months on each of the heroin distribution and firearm possession counts to run concurrently, and 60 months for possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime to run consecutively to the other two counts.
Authorities said D raine has prior felony convictions for assault and battery with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and domestic assault and battery when the incident occurred.
