State taking applications for new tag agencies

- Staff reports

The Oklahoma Tax Commission has opened applications for three new tag agencies in northeastern Oklahoma.

The offices will be located in Washington, Cherokee a nd Ottawa Counties.

Anyone who wants to open a new tag agency must contact the agency's Motor Vehicle Division at MLAinfo@tax.ok.gov. That office can also be reached at 405-521-2519.

Statute requirements and metrics such as the tag agency's proximity to other locations and volume of business are used to determine if an agency is beneficial and cost-efficient for the area.

“Our mission is to provide quality customer service and to ensure the success of the tag agencies in addition to serving Oklahomans in the best way possible.” said Jay Doyle, Tax Commission executive director. “We are hoping to receive some quality applications.”

Applications must be mailed or hand delivered. It cannot be emailed or faxed. There is also a $100 nonrefundable fee that must be received with the application.

The Tax Commission requires that any applicant must provide proof they will be able to obtain a bond for the required amount.

Criminal background checks, income tax filing compliance and credit checks will be conducted on all applicants. All forms submitted as part of the application must be notarized.

The Tax Commission plans to interview applicants and appoint agents in a timely manner in order to best serve the residents of these counties, the commission said.
