Cardinals catcher Molina says he tested positive for coronavirus

-

Yadier Molina revealed Tuesday he is one of the St. Louis Cardinals players who tested positive for the coronavirus.

"I am saddened to have tested positive for COVID- 1 9, even after adhering to guidelines that were put in place," the catcher said in a statement. "I will do all that I can to return as soon as possible for Cardinals fans, the city of St. Louis and my teammates."

Molina's announcement comes a day after the club had its next series postponed due to 13 total positive tests among players and staff. They are the second Major League Baseball team, along with the Miami Marlins, to experience COVID19 outbreaks since the season started on July 23.

Along with Molina, five other Cardinals chose togo public with their diagnosis: Paul DeJong, Junior Fernández, Rangel Ravelo, Edmundo Sosa and Kodi Whitley.

BRAVES: The Atlanta Braves have placed righthander Mike Soroka on the 45-day injured list following his season-ending torn right Achilles tendon. Soroka, the team's opening day starter, had to be helped off the field after suffering his injury in Monday night's loss to the New York Mets.

ANGELS: Shohei Ohtani has a right forearm strain that will prevent the Los Angeles Angels' two-way star from throwing for at least four to six weeks, possibly ending his season as a pitcher after just two starts.

NATIONALS: Left fielder Juan Soto was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list after missing the team's first seven games of the season. Manager Dave Martinez did not put the slugger in Washington's starting lineup against the New York Mets for the opener of a two-game series Tuesday night.
