Groups to host voter registrati­on events

Several groups are hosting voter registrati­on events in the coming days.

Several churches and community groups have joined together to host events, while a voter registrati­on drive focusing on the American Indian and Latino communitie­s is also set.

The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 3 election is Oct. 9.

Crown Heights United Methodist Church, Mosaic United Methodist ChurchOK C and Northeast Missionary Baptist Church have agreed to unite across denominati­onal lines to help community members register to vote and request absentee ballots. The churches also will offer free notarizati­on services for absentee ballots.

The trio of churches will offer the services from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Mary's Swap Meet, NE 23 and Midwest Boulevard. Crown Heights United Methodist, 1020 NW 37, and Mosaic United Methodist, 3131 NW 50, will each offer free notarizati­on events for absentee ballots from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 18.

Meanwhile, Rock the Native Vote and Voto Latino will host a voter registrati­on event with support from the Oklahoma City Thunder. It is set for 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Wheeler Ferris Wheel in the Wheeler District, 1701 S Western.

Tuesday's event, held in conjunctio­n with National Voter Registrati­on Day, will include voter registrati­on tables, live music, dance demonstrat­ions and food trucks. Also, booths will be set up to help participan­ts complete the 2020 census.

The Rock the Native Vote 2020 campaign is administer­ed by the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference of the United Methodist Church. Voto Latino is a grassroots civic engagement organizati­on focused on educating, empowering and engaging Latino voters.

On Sept. 26, volunteers from Trinity Presbyteri­an Church and the League of Women Voters of Oklahoma County will assist people with voter registrati­on from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot at Trinity, 2301 NE 23.

Social distancing will be observed and visitors are asked to wear a mask or one will be provided. Those registerin­g to vote will need to have their driver's license number, ID card number or the last four digits of their Social Security number.
