INJURY BUG BITES

-

Week 2 of the regular season featured a littany of injuries to several star players across the league

New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley will miss the rest of the season with a major injury to his right knee.

The Giants (0-2) said an MRI on Monday confirmed Barkley tore the anterior cruciate ligament in the knee on Sunday in a loss to the Chicago Bears.

The 2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year will undergo surgery in the near future, the team said.

Barkley went down hard on the Chicago sideline after trying to fend off Bears safety Eddie Jackson on a 6-yard carry early in the second quarter. The No. 2 overall draft choice in 2018 dragged his right leg behind him as he was helped back across the field to the Giants sideline.

Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey is expected to miss multiple weeks with a high-ankle sprain he sustained Sunday in a 31-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Panthers coach Matt Rhule confirmed on Monday.

McCaffrey said the initial timeline given to him for a return was four to six weeks.

BRONCOS: Wide receiver Courtland Sutton is out for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered in Sunday's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, coach Vic Fangio confirmed. Sutton had three catches for 66 yards before exiting the game.

49ERS: The injury carts rolled out twice in three plays and the 49ers lost a few more key players. San Francisco lost quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to a high ankle sprain and running back Ra he em Mo ste rt to an injured knee. Defensive end Nick Bosa and defensive tackle

Solomon Thomas were both carted off the field two plays apart with left knee injuries in the first quarter. The fear is it could be a season-ending ACL injury for Bosa.
