An Oklahoma City man with a history of abusing his mother will likely spend the rest of his life in prison following his latest conviction.

Carlton Le roy Na ult was found guilty Friday of abuse or neglect by a caretaker by a jury that considered his criminal record before recommending a 55-year prison sentence.

Prosecutors charged Nault, 55, with seconddegree murder, alleging that his abuse of 83-yearold Mari Lea Miller on June 13, 2019, caused her death 11 days later.

Jurors, though, couldn't agree on the murder charge.

Na ult was arrested on complaints of abuse, neglect and aggravated assault after officers were flagged down at an apartment complex near NW 36 and Meridian Avenue.

An apartment manager told officers that she heard Miller yelling "quit, stop that's hurting me" in her apartment, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Inside the apartment, officers said N au lt' s mother had obvious signs of trauma to her face, including a deep laceration over her right eye, and was living in "deplorable conditions," police reported.

Nault was previously convicted of abusing his mother in 2011 and was serving a suspended sentence at the time of his 2019 arrest.

Records show Nault also was convicted in 2005 of possession of a fire arm after a former conviction and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon involving his mother.

He is scheduled to be formally sentenced Monday by Oklahoma County District Judge Heather Coyle.
