We're past the halfway portion of the high school football regular season and creeping closer to the playoffs.
The Oklahoman's high school coverage team breaks down some midseason award winners, but keep in mind, this is not a prediction for The Oklahoman's postseason honors.
State's Most Valuable Player to this point Cameron Jourdan:
Qwontrel Walker, Stillwater. The senior continues to prove he's the best running back in the state. Walker has rushed for 986 yards and 15 touchdowns in four games.
Nick Sardis: Owen Ostroski, Tulsa Holland Hall. The 6-foot-2, 245pound senior defensive lineman is arguably the most aggressive and physical player in the state. An Army commit, Ostroski has recorded 38 tackles (20½ for loss), nine sacks, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in five games.
James D. Jackson: Luke Tarman, McGuinness. The senior quarterback has rushed 106 times for 1,011 yards and 15 touchdowns.
He's also thrown for 756 yards and six touchdowns to lead Class 5A No. 4 McGuinness to a 4-1 record.
State's best team
Jourdan: Bixby. The Spartans have continually beat the state's best teams, regardless of class, and are on a 29-game win streak.
Sardis: Bixby. The Spartans are 4-0 and beat four-time defending Class 5A state champion Carl Albert 56-14 last week.
Jackson: Bixby. The Spartans continued their win streak by steam rolling over Class 5A powerhouse Carl Albert on Friday.
Big All-City MVP
Jourdan: Luke Tarman, McGuinness. He has taken control of the offense and dominated. Tarman has amassed nearly 1,800 total yards and 21 touchdowns in five games.
Sardis: Qwontrel Walker, Stillwater. The tailback surpassed 6,000 career rushing yards on an 80-yard touchdown against Mustang last month and is having an outstanding senior season.
Jackson: Qwontrel Walker, Stillwater. He has continued his dominance. His near 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns shows it.
Little All-City MVP
Jourdan: Ben Harman, Cashion. The junior quarterback has tossed 24 touchdowns and leads a Wildcat offense that averages 48.2 points per game. Sardis: Carson May, Jones: The junior quarterback has completed 63.4% of his passes for 1,350 yards and 13 touchdowns. He has also run for 343 yards and six scores on 55 carries. Jackson: Carson May, Jones: The 6-foot-5 quarterback can pick his way through any defense with either his arm strength or his ability to run. He's proven that with his outstanding play.
State's breakout player
Jourdan: Braylin Presley, Bixby. The junior running back has emerged as the next in the line of Spartan stars. He's up to 635 rushing yards and 14 total touchdowns.
Sardis: Ethane Hyche, Edmond Santa Fe: The senior tailback has run for 12 touchdowns and 708 yards for the Wolves, who are on a three-game win streak.
Jackson: Gage Laney, Owasso. The senior defensive back has grabbed six interceptions in five games to help lead the Rams win 18 straight games.
State's breakout team
Jourdan: Kingston. The move up to Class 3A hasn't affected Kingston, which is 5-0 and is primed to compete with perennial power Sulphur for the district title. Sardis: Oklahoma Christian School. The Class 2A Saints are playing well under first-year head coach Brooks Stephenson and have a 4-0 record. Jackson: Yukon. The Class 6A Millers have looked good so far. Their flexbone offense has given many defenses trouble. They are averaging 38.8 points a game, leading them to a 4-1 record.
