Class 5A: Carl Albert has big final inning to reach final

Abbey Rogers had an opportunity to break the tie in the final inning.

Carl Albert had just put two runners on after base hits from Alexis Williams and Aerin Talley.

Rogers then hammered a ball to right field that rolled all the way to the fence and scored both runners.

Rogers' two-RBI double jump-started the Titans' final inning surge. Marissa Frolich capped it with a two-RBI double of her own.

With a big seventhinning rally, Carl Albert beat Claremore 5-1 at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex on Friday afternoon. Carl Albert pushed four runs across the plate in the final inning to advance to the Class 5A state championship.

“We got comfortable and weren't paying attention to what we were doing at the plate,” Carl Albert coach Colin White said.

“It took a while but we finally got back and got some good at-bats.”

Claremore had runners on first and second with nobody out in the sixth inning but Carl Albert escaped unscathed. White said that was a big boost for the Titans heading into the final inning where seniors Williams, Talley, Rogers and Nia Long delivered big hits.

“My seniors they played well in that game,” White said. “They did a great job.”

Class 6A: Owasso ousts defending champion Edmond Memorial

Lily Shaw was determined.

After giving up a run as a pitcher to break the scoreless tie, Shaw decided to take the lead herself.

Shaw smoked a ball over the left-field fence for a two-run home run.

Shaw's home run led to a 4-1 win over Edmond Memorial at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex. The Rams scored four runs in the sixth inning to advance to the Class 6 A state championship.

“Lily has been pretty consistent all year ,” O was so coach Shane Eicher said. “Last year in the state tournament she hit all those home runs. This year, she' s had a couple good hits but she just hadn't got a whole lot of lift on a ball. When she hit that ball I knew it was gone. I mean it was huge.”

With the win, Owasso beat the defending Class 6A state champions.

Class 4A: Six-run seventh inning lifts Tuttle past Tecumseh

Rylan Dooner couldn't have picked a better time to come through.

Heading into the seventh inning, Tuttle trailed Tecumseh by two runs. Dooner changed that.

The senior smashed a two-run home run over the left-field fence to tie the game.

The Tigers then scored four more runs in the inning.

Tuttle advanced to the Class 4A state championship with a 9-5 win over Tecumseh at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex. The Tigers scored six runs in the final inning. The sudden burst left Tuttle coach Rebecca Cobb shaking her head.

“We couldn' t have drawn it up any crazier t han what happened,” Cobb said.

Tuttle will take on Lone Grove Saturday at noon.
