Gallery of Homes at Rivendell raises money, spirits

- Staff reports

The Gallery of Home sat Riven dell raised more than $ 89,000 to benefit its two nonprofit partners, The Sparrow Project and Moore Faith Medical Clinic, organizers said.

Money was raised through event admission proceeds, sponsor underwriting and a monetary gift from Jim R. Daniel, vice chairman of BancFirst. Longtime Oklahoma City developer P. B. O dom III multiplied all admission proceeds from the event by providing a 2:1 matching donation on all ticket sales through the P.B. Odom III Family Foundation.

“We were so pleased to contribute this matching gift for The Sparrow Project and Moore Faith Medical Clinic through the Gallery of Homes at Rivendell,” Odom said. “These two nonprofit organizations serve an important need in our community and with our current economic climate, they need our support more than ever.”

The Sparrow Project is a nonprofit organization promoting happy and fulfilled lives of adults with intellectual disabilities and spreading the message that everyone has worth and deserves the opportunity to have a meaningful life. The mission is fulfilled through two programs: Sparrow University and NEST.

Sparrow University offers bi-weekly arts and crafts, music classes, sports, cooking lessons and volunteer opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities at little to no charge. NEST hosts monthly social events, including sporting events, theater outings, picnic sand dances. Because of the corona virus, the organization is conducting Sp arrow University classes through distance learning and conducting social events through Zoom.

“Our delivery methods have temporarily changed due to the COVID- 1 9 pandemic, but our mission has not changed,” said Allison Richey, founder of The Sparrow Project. “We are committed to serving our participants in ways that keep them safe, while providing them fun and challenging opportunities and social time with friends. This donation will allow us to continue providing low-cost and free tuition for all our participants.”

Moore Faith Medical Clinic was founded in 2015 after its founders recognized a need to help the uninsured and underserved in Moore. The clinic's mission is to share the love of Christ in a holistic and tangible way through faith-based free medical care and focuses on loving and serving the community while recognizing the God-given dignity of each human life.

Over t he past seven months, the clinic has provided curbside pharmacy refills to patients' vehicles in order to limit exposure to those who are immune compromised. Chaplains give prayer support and encouragement while patients wait in line.

“We are so thankful for this donation and feel so blessed to be part of such a generous and caring community ,” said David Evans, Moore Faith Medical Clinic executive director. “Since the pandemic began, our volunteer staff has provided compassionate care to more than 1,000 patients — all while taking additional precautions to keep our staff and patients safe.”

Homebuilders for this year's event, held June 27 to July 12, were Craig Smith Homes, Huffman Custom Homes, Stonewall Homes and Tatum Custom Homes.
