Mural festival set in downtown Edmond

EDMOND—The Roll in' Deep Mural Festival will feature giant works of art as 13 artists paint from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday in downtown Edmond.

The artists will paint 4,700 square feet of murals in several alleyways in downtown Edmond. Onlookers can enjoy local deejays and live music during an open-air mural demonstrat­ion while practicing social distancing.

Sites planned for the murals include the west wall of 15 E First St.; west walls of 15 S Broadway and 10 W First St.; east wall of 17 W First St.; and east wall of 8 S Broadway.

Dusty Gil pin, with Okiedust, will be one of the artists and organizers of the event.

“What was once a simple alley will become a high-traffic destinatio­n spot, selfie station and outdoor gallery featuring some of the best

Oklahoman muralists,” Gilpin said.

The Edmond Visual Arts Commission is supporting the event, as it aligns with its mission to provide a means for the selection, display and maintenanc­e of art for the city of Edmond's collection, a news release stated.

“Public art adds vitality and character to an area, and t his project will activate our downtown alleyways,” said Cinda Covel, Edmond city clerk and art liaison .“We are thrilled to have these talented mural artists as part of this project. Their unique and outstandin­g styles will diversify the Edmond Public Art Program.”
