Town hall meetings set on legislative redistricting
Oklahoma legislative leaders have set dates for a series of town hall meetings on the upcoming redistricting process.
The meetings, which will be held across the state, will set the stage for when state legislators draw new House, Senate and congressional maps for Oklahoma.
Every decade following the U.S. Census, the Oklahoma Legislature draws new district maps. Legislators are seeking public input on how districts should look for the next decade.
At each of the town hall meetings, the public will get an overview of the legislative redistricting process and have a chance to comment. Attendees will be able to comment on House or Senate redistricting, regardless of which meeting they attend.
“These meetings are the bread and butter of our public-driven redistricting process in the House,” said Rep. Ryan Martinez, R- Edmond, chairman of the House
Redistricting Committee. “All Oklahomans can and should participate to take ownership of the process determining what their districts look like for the next decade.”
The meetings, which will follow the pandemic protocols of the facility hosting the meeting, will be livestreamed when facilities allow. The meeting video also will be posted online and archived.
