Spawn, `Future' Batman added to Local Comic Shop Day lineup
Local Comic Shop Day will take place next Wednesday, and since the initial announcement, more high-profile titles have been added to the celebration.
Todd McFarlane, creator of “Spawn” will release a “retailer variant” of “Spawn” #312, only instead of listing out the names of those who've contributed to SPAWN over the years, this LCSD 2020 wraparound cover features the names of comic shops who are registered for the 2020 Local Comic Shop Day event.
Local Comic Shop Day is a six-year-old event conceived and implemented by ComicsPRO comic book specialty retailers to call attention to locally owned independent comic book stores.
Also coming from Image Comics for Local Comic Shop Day is a gold-foil logo edition of “Invincible” #1. Robert Kirkman (“The Walking Dead”) and Cory Walker debuted this long-running comic-book series in 2003, and it's the basis of an upcoming Amazon Prime TV show adaptation featuring the voices of Steven Yeun (“The Walking Dead”), J.K. Simmons (“Spider-Man”) and Sandra Oh (“Killing Eve”). In “Invincible,” teen Mark Grayson discovers he's developing superpowers — and that he inherited them from his father.
Rounding out the special releases from Image for Local Comic Shop Day are variants of “Ice Cream Man” #20 and “Monstress Talk-Stories” #1.
Meanwhile, DC Comics is providing a one-perstore variant of the “DC Nation Presents: DC Future State” special.
This edition features a recolored version of the wraparound cover with art by Dan Mora, including the LCSD logo.
DC Future State is a two-month, linewide event beginning in January. DC Future State spotlights the DC superheroes as new characters take up their iconic mantles. New versions of Batman, Superman and others will be revealed to DC fans.
“DC Nation Presents: DC Future State” is a free, 32-page, comic booksize magazine exploring the crossover, including behind-the-scenes artwork, checklists, and more. Each store receiving the magazine will receive one limited edition “Local Comic Shop Day” variant.
Also coming from DC on Local Shop Day are variant covers of “The Other History of the DC Universe” #1.
Marvel Comics is providing a variant for “X of Swords: Destruction” #1 by Nikko Henrichon.
Z2 Comics is releasing “True War Stories.” Dark Horse Comics will release “Witcher: Fading Memories” #1.
Boom! Studios has a lineup of five recent hits, released with foil logos for Local Comic Shop Day: “Mighty Morphin” #1 and “Power Rangers” #1, both featuring the action heroes from the TV and movie franchise; “Dune: House Atreides” #2, featuring the prequel to the sci-fi classic; “Lumberjanes” #75, about unusual goings-on at a scout camp; and “Something is Killing the Children” #1, a dark mystery featuring a monster slayer.
