As a violent mob breached the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, the largest advocacy group representing American manufacturers called on Vice President Mike Pen ce and others in the executive branch to consider invoking the 25th Amendment, which would remove President

Donald Trump from power.

The National Association of Manufacturers said in a statement that the protests, which turned violent as Congress began debating the Electoral College results, descended into chaos and mob rule.

"It is dangerous. This is sedition and should be treated as such. The outgoing president in cited violence in an attempt to retain power, and any elected leader defending him is violating their oath to the Constitution and rejecting democracy in favor of anarchy," the group said. "Anyone indulging conspiracy theories to raise campaign dollars is complicit. Vice President Pence, who was evacuated from the Capitol, should seriously consider working with the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to preserve democracy."

NAM added that manufacturers are trying to rebuild an economy, "but none of that will matter if our leaders refuse to fend off this attack on America and our democracy," the statement read.

The 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution has typically been invoked when a president is injured or incapacitated, like when going into surgery. It is used when the president i s unable to discharge his or her duties.
