SAG Awards move to April, no longer on same day as Grammys

In yet another awards season plot twist, the Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony is changing dates.

The 2021 SAG Awards will now take place April 4 after previously being set for March 14, organizers announced Wednesday.

The change comes after the Grammy Awards' recent move to that March 14 date.

It's the latest instance of an awards ceremony being pushed back multiple weeks as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt the entertainment industry.

“Throughout these challenging times, our industry and our union members have proven their creativity and resilience in discovering new methods of storytelling while adapting to new safety protocols and procedures,” reads the announcement released Wednesday by SAG-AFTRA.

“We embrace that spirit as we re-imagine the SAG Awards with a one-hour special that highlights and expands on our signature

I am an Actor opening and honors the outstanding performances of the past year.”

SAG nominations are currently scheduled to be unveiled Feb. 4.

The April 4 ceremony, meanwhile, is set to air on TNT and TBS beginning at 8 p.m. CDT.

This isn't the first time the SAG Awards have changed dates amid the pandemic. The show was originally scheduled for Jan. 24, but was moved last summer to that now-vacated March date.

The annual awards ceremony honors actors for both film and TV achievements. This year's show is scheduled to take place three weeks before the Academy Awards, which are set for April 25.

Previously scheduled for Jan. 31, the Grammys' move to March was announced last week.
