HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Here are The Oklahoman's high school athletes of the week for Jan. 11-17:
Boys basketball
Vance Raney, Jr., Cashion: Raney was a big reason Cashion went 3-0 last week, including two overtime victories. One of those
came in double overtime against Class 2A No. 1 Dale on Thursday, when he scored 22 points. The next night, he poured in 21 points in an overtime win against Wellston. In both contests, he went 7-of-11 from the field and made six 3-pointers. In a win against Thomas on Saturday, he had 11 points and made a trio of treys.
Girls basketball
Delanie Crawford, Sr., Piedmont: The Tulsa signee played two of her best games of the season last week to improve Class 5A No. 4 Piedmont's
win streak to five games. Crawford tallied 24 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals to lead the Wildcats past No. 8 McGuinness on Tuesday. She then recorded 19 points, nine rebounds, two steals and two assists on Friday as Piedmont bested No. 10 Shawnee. Through 11 games, Crawford is averaging 14.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2 steals.
Boys swimming
Max Myers, Sr., Edmond Memorial: The Notre Dame signee had a dominant victory in the 200-yard freestyle during a meet last Tuesday that featured the three Edmond schools, Carl Albert and Choctaw. Myers finished the race in 1 minute, 44.75 seconds and placed second in the 100 backstroke (1:04.19). He also led Edmond Memorial to a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.74) and second-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:46.33). Myers is showing versatility this season, excelling in multiple events. He broke two school records during a meet in November, finishing the 50 freestyle in 20.50 and 100 butterfly in 50.32.
Girls swimming
Lily Rector, Sr., Edmond North: She led the Huskies to last against a Tuesday victory Carl Albert, Choctaw, Edmond Memorial and Edmond
Santa Fe. Rector won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2 minutes, 5.55 seconds and placed second in the 100 backstroke (1:02.83). She also helped Edmond North win the 400 freestyle relay (4:02.73) and place second in the 200 medley relay (2:00.71).
Wrestling
Cooper Evans, Sr., Westmoore: Evans won the 138-pound title at the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday.
Evans had a close battle with Edmond North's Layton Schneider in the championship match and earned a 3-2 decision. He helped Westmoore finish in a tie for fourth place in the 12-team field. Evans is the son of Westmoore wrestling coach Will Evans.
