Mustang educator gets remodeled classroom

- Staff reports

A Mustang Creek Elementary School teacher and her students are enjoying a surprise classroom makeover thanks to True Sky Credit Union's Sky Crew, with help from Graham Construction.

Mustang Creek Principal Leah Anderson selected educator Rachel Thomas to help with the planning and execution of a model classroom makeover, but Anderson didn' t share with Thomas who would be using the remodeled classroom space. In her design planning, Thomas used her diverse background and 21 years of teaching

experience to decide which furniture and technology would be included in the model classroom.

Thomas was brought to tears, however, when it was revealed that the classroom

she had designed would belong to her and her students. “I just wanted what would be best for educators and students,” Thomas said. “It was great to be able to bring a variety of ideas and expertise into this to make it into something that is very kid-, user- and teacher-friendly.”

True Sky's branch manager Melissa Hacker worked closely with Anderson and True Sky President and CEO Sean Cahill on the project. “We believe in supporting the education of our future leaders,” Cahill said. “We are thrilled that our Sky Crew was able to participate in a project that will benefit dozens of deserving students.”

True Sky's “Sky Crew” i s made up of employees who work throughout the year to find ways to improve and give back to the community.
